This information was adapted from this post. Note that pops_xxg.prx is marked as a system file, and may be hidden in your file manager by default. I bought a ksm 440ADM to replace the laser and after the swap, it is still not working.
SONY SCPH 5501 CODE
If done correctly, the extracted code should have Sony Computer Entertainment Inc at offset hex 108 and System ROM Version 4.5 at offset hex 7FF32. Any ideas Hi, I recently had an issue with my laser not reading discs at all, like I wouldnt even see the 2nd screen with the ps logo, only the sony logo and then the cd player screen. The BIOS file begins at hex offset 54E08 and is hex 80000 bytes (512 KB) long. Use HxD to cut out the PS1 BIOS from inside pops_xxg.prx.The file pops_xxg.prx inside the enc folder should be around 1114 KB now. Once finished, return to the XMB and connect the PSP to your computer. Launch PRX Decrypter and select "Decrypt/decompress files", press X to confirm.Create a folder enc in the root of the Memory Stick and copy pops_xxg.prx inside it. Extract PRX Decrypter to the root of the Memory Stick.Use the VSH Menu to set "USB device" back to "Memory Stick".It depends on your PSP model.) The file is around 463 KB. (The file can be named pops_01g.prx to pops_11g.prx. From the folder kd copy the file pops_xxg.prx to your PC.In the XMB, press Select to bring up the VSH Menu.

Power supply recapped and adjusted, sound is said to be on par with reference players. Laser transport disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and damped to reduce parasitic resonances.Ĥ.

RCA connectors added (chassis modified and cut).ģ. Modified output stage - DAC direct output using nos ROE GOLD capacitors and metal film resistors.Ģ. A separate output stage was added leaving all existing electronics intact, the signal is "stolen" directly from DAC output without removing any electronic components so it still functions as a normal "Playstation".ġ. I modified the power supply, laser pickup, and the chassis. The modifications performed on this player makes it a truly excellent sounding piece of equipment. 5501 uses a better laser pickup assembly, it is auto-biasing for proper tracking (important for reading CDR) and positioned further from power supply to avoid interference and heat. Model SCPH-5501 uses the same Asahi Kasei AK4309AVM DAC as Model SCPH-1001 which gives this player a superb audio quality with lots of detail, dynamics and resolution. Modifications to this player yield excellent sonic results. Sony did a great job putting in excellent DAC in its early Playstation models. I purchased this player from him and did not realize an active preamp was needed to get best results. This player was modified by audiogon member djdonis, who has produced many of these with excellent feedback.
